M. Giuliani, Grand Overture Op 61
G. Frescobaldi, Aria con Variazioni detta “La Frescobalda”
G. Susani, The Blue Madeleine
F. Sor, Grand Solo, Op 14
D. Scarlatti, Sonata in A K208, Sonata in E K380
J. Rodrigo, En los Trigales
M. Pasierzny, Tate sonata

This was a very colourful recital from the young Italian guitarist, full of contrast and showing off the full scope of the instrument. Susani made the Scarlatti sonatas sound as if they had been originally conceived for the guitar. He also showed that he has an equally promising career ahead as a composer, with his three movement Proustian work, The Blue Madeleine. This was not the only contemporary piece in the programme; we were also treated to Marek Pasierzny’s Tate Sonata, each movement of which wonderfully evokes an artwork that the composer had viewed in the Tate Modern.
